Paraphimosis |
| |
DESCRIPTION
If the foreskin of the penis is tight and gets stuck behind the head, the condition is known as paraphimosis (PAIR-uh-fim-OH-sis).
CAUSES
The problem may occur during sex, result from an infection, or happen when the foreskin is pulled back so the tip of the penis can be washed.
SYMPTOMS
The condition can cause pain and swelling at the tip of the penis and lead to problems with urination. The tip of the penis may turn red or blue.
CARE
Sometimes the foreskin can be worked back into place manually. However, the doctor may need to make a slit in the foreskin to relieve the pressure. Removal of the foreskin (circumcision) is often recommended.
